The 5-part process to becoming a Divemaster:

Becoming a Diving Professional requires more intensive training than recreational courses, however the process can be broken down into 5 sub-sections:

  • Knowledge Development
    • With a combination of instructor-led and self-study modules, you will learn all about the standards and procedures of being a dive professional.  Your knowledge of dive-related physics, physiology and environmental systems and practices will be enhanced, and you will gain a full understanding of why diving is taught and run the way it is today.
  • Skills Development
    • A Dive Professional is expected to have excellent dive skills, and therefore a major component of a Divemaster program is the development of these skills to demonstration standard.
  • Practical Sessions
    • Divemasters are leaders in the industry, running dives, and making sure everyone has a good time.  You will learn skills such as effective dive planning, briefings, set up and management of dive sites, and also practice scenarios where those skills and your in-water skills could be put to the test.
  • Workshops
    • There are various programs that a Divemaster can run.  In a series of workshops, you will prepare to run these programs for customers, giving you a chance to hone you skills in specific areas.
  • Course Assistance
    • Divemasters often take on the role of a teaching assistant for Instructors with students undergoing training.  By practising this role, you can ensure that you are fully prepared for course that you assist on.
