Erin Brereton

Erin discovered scuba diving while backpacking in Vietnam in 2017, initially believing, like many, that diving was only for the tropics. A year later, despite having no dives in between, she completed her Advanced Open Water certification in Egypt—and hasn’t looked back since.
Her passion for diving grew as she traveled extensively, joining liveaboards and exploring as much of the underwater world as possible. In 2020, she transitioned from being an underwater tourist to a conservationist, spending five months in Mozambique and South Africa working on research projects focused on sharks, rays, and whale sharks.
With COVID lockdowns limiting travel, Erin turned her attention to the wonders of Port Phillip Bay, where she became actively involved in citizen science projects and deepened her knowledge of local marine ecosystems. In 2024, she made the leap from a career in primary teaching to pursue a Master’s in Environmental Management, following her childhood dream of working in science.
As Environmental Officer, Erin supports the dive centre’s conservation initiatives and develops new opportunities for divers and snorkelers to engage in protecting our section of the Great Southern Reef.
